5 Clothes of the Soul – Pancha Kosha

The 5 koshas

The 5 koshas are the sheaths that clothes the soul:atma in Sanskrit.

In Lalitha shasranamam,the most revered hymn collection in the Hindu sacred literature for praising the Goddess, there is a mention of Goddess residing in the 5 koshas. : Panchakoshanthara Sthitha. In other words, God who resides in everything also pervades in the 5 clothes of the soul.

1. Annamayya Kosha

Physical Body.

2. Pranamaya Kosha

Vital Energy Sheath

3. Manomaya Kosha

The Mind sheath

4. Vijnanamaya Kosha (Wisdom)

The Wisdom sheath

5. Anandamaya Kosha

The Blissful sheath

Atma is clothed and hidden by these 5 sheaths.

Annamaya kosha which is the physical body of the bones, muscles and blood is nourished from the food.

Prana shakthi is something more than circulation, or biological cycle in the body. It is like vitality flow in the body. The Chinese have a concept of CHI, which seems similar to the concept of Prana SHAKTHI.

Prana shakthi is able to control the annamaya kosha.

The mind plays a big role in controlling the prana shakthi.

Wisdom (Realisation) also regulates the lower levels of the sheaths.

It is very interesting to note that the WISDOM is not part of the manomaya kosha.

WISDOM is not something that exits in the same level as mind plane. It is one step higher.

Says Swami Vivekananda, an Indian/Hindu philosopher, “Mind is the great instrument for using prana. Mind is material. Behind the mind is the Atman which takes hold of prana. Prana is the driving power of the world and can be seen in every manifestation of life. The body is mortal and the mind is mortal, both being compounds, must die. Behind all is the Atman which never dies. The Atman is pure intelligence controlling and directing prana.”

Modern Science might have mistaken the SUBCONSCIOUS MIND to be the VIJANAMAYA KOSHA. However, the power of the VIJANAMAYA sheath remains to be tapped fully.

The wisdom, the vijanamaya kosha could be regarded as an INTUTION, or a VISION that even intellect is not able to comprehend.

The blissful sheath is something closest to the ATMA, and is truer to the reality of ATMA.

Against Genocide

Even Buddhism which is a very soft religion, taught self-defence and retaliation to its monks. Martial arts were developed by Buddhist monks to defend themselves.

Wish to highlight two great heroes who retaliated against the existence of widespread genocide: Soghomon Tehlirian and Nathuram Godse

Soghomon Tehlirian- for shooting down one of the mastermind of Armenian Genocide

Above Armenian, Soghomon Tehlirian , killed one of the ruler of Ottoman Empire during World War I.

The seed of Armenian genocide sprouted and invaded the field of humanity that is supposed to abound with tolerance. There is no way but by weeding out such negative by calculated violent tactic.

After killing 1.5 million Armenians in a span of 2 years between 1915-1917, the masterminds of such violent acts were scot free and without any accountability. What can even compensate the losses? Only an act of violence to remove the mastermind of the bad actions.

When Soghomon Tehliran shot down Talaat Pasha ( one of the mastermind minister), he told ‘This is for my mother’.

To weed out the violence that stroke his mother, this action has to happen in order for the world to have the right attitude of not tolerating any violence against anyone.

This incident influenced Raphael Lemkin, who coined the world genocide in the 1940s, to write:

‘ At that moment, my worries about the murder of the innocent became more meaningful to me. I didn't know all the answers but I felt that a law against this type of racial or religious murder must be adopted by the world’

When the Nazis were killing the European Jews, in 1941 Winston Churchill, said that these are crime without a name. Lemkin gave the name Genocide, who was himself was a victim of such persecution. Being a Jew, his parents were gassed in concentration camp.

Eventually Lemkin campaigned for the ‘ The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide ‘ which was adopted by United Nations General Assembly.

Sadly, even though this law criminalizes genocide, even in this second, genocide happens without any qualms as nothing is being enforced drastically.

2.Nathuram Godse – For shooting down Mahatma Gandhi who has visualised India to be separated by religion instead of uniting in the diversity.

The act of killing Gandhi has own justification. Sometimes it is a wishful thinking to realise, that this could happen before many lives were lost due to Partition and clashes over one’s religion.

If a wrong happens before your eyes, be brave and retaliate to stop it.

Violence is never permitted. But do what it takes to stop the violence – RETALIATE.

We don’t have to be violent to retaliate. But in our everyday life we can question any wrong that goes against humanity.

Don’t turn a blind eye.

The Psychic incident behind the discovery of EEG.

EEG – (Electro- Encephalo -Gram) is an instrumental test to evaluate the electrical activity of the brain.

By attaching electrodes, the electrical pulses of the brain activities are measured. As brain communicates via electrical impulses, the instrument can collect the brain wave patterns based on the electrical voltage.

Today, it is used for diagnosis of brain activities and validating scientific experiments.

For a person who is in continuous coma, EEG can be used to know if they are brain dead. Other health mental conditions such as epilepsy, impairment, and trauma are diagnosed via EEG.

The brain waves recorded in EEG form a distinctive pattern during different level of consciousness.

Waves are categorized depending on the electrical impulses’ frequency.

Different types of waves can co-exist at the same time.

EEG helps to understand the overall common pattern of the electrical activities happening in the brain, due to external and internal stimuli.

The discovery of the EEG is inspired by a lifesaving and a paranormal incident that occurred to the inventor: Hans Berger.

When he was a university student, he signed up for one year in cavalry. During a training, his horse suddenly reared and he landed onto the path of a horse-drawn cannon. The driver of the horse drawn cannon halted in time, leaving young Berger very shaken up. However, his sister (whom he is very close) felt that he was in danger though she was very far away. She asked her dad to telegram Berger to find out about his safety. Berger himself felt there is a physic energy which made the sister receive his signals. He began studying medicine to research about this psychic energy, that can transmit his distress to his sister without any barriers of distance.

It is very sad that during the Nazi-era, on June 1, 1941, Hans Berger committed suicide in a clinic.

We should really feel gratitude for the efforts of Hans Berger.

He survived from being trampled from a horse, only to end own life due to depression in a very toxic times of NAZI ERA. Wherever his soul is now, he should be remembered for the contribution of EEG instrument.

His work paved the route for other necessary medical diagnostic tools such as positron emission topography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Interestingly the name for the devil is called Satan. The word Satan in Hebrew means accuser.

The evilness in the world tempts us to stray away from the truth so as the eventually accuse us that we do not deserve the eternal consciousness of bliss.

This is what is told in all the major scriptures. Ancient Egyptian culture which has influenced humanity time immemorial has told the same too.

It cannot be denied that the roots of the religions that revere the OLD TESTAMENTS, aspirations of the GREEK/ROMAN civilisation can be found in the ancient EGYPTIAN culture.

The Heart is weighed against the Feather of Truth.

The feather is very light.

In modern courtroom, there is a LADY blindfolded holding two scales.

She is Lady Justice. She is having two scales.

Outside every major courtroom, there is the representation of the Lady. Her roots trace back to the Greek mythology, which indeed got inspiration from the ancient Egyptian culture.

Man-made laws can give punishment to make the heart repent and do a corrective action for a negative action.

The goal of a man-made law is to at least try to make the heart balance to the Feather of Truth in the final judgement.

In today’s situation, many transgressions go unpunished. The powerful who can buy over the modern legal system and are able to walk away free from all their wrong doings. Let it be.

The final judgement waits for them.

If the Heart is heavier to the Feather of Truth, it is told that figurately that it will be fed to an animal. It can also mean subtly that it will be brought to a very low level of consciousness.

If the Heart is lighter and weigh to the Feather of the Truth, the soul is given the verdict of IMMORTAL BLISS.

Suppose a kind soul in this world, specifically a very Generous Soul which created the entire universe, is very kind and gave you a blank cheque - What would you do?

Will you fill it with a single digit or try your best to put in the greatest value possible to cash out an amount without the cheque being bounced?

You will try to guess the greatest possible value that exists in the bank and match your value to be as much or at least large enough to fulfil all your needs. Is it not a big waste if you just discard the cheque? Or worse- will you just lose the cheque or just don't bank it in?

The choice is yours. You can call it FREE – WILL.

Just like that, God has created and handed out is a person's lifetime as a blank cheque. It is up to the individual to fill it up literally with the greatest values. It is not being selfish or greedy, but it is maximizing the opportunity given. An individual must write out his lifetime as a greatest value in the blank cheque of lifetime.

In today's world, right and wrong exists side by side. Sometimes just because a wrong is widely practiced, it is thought to be correct. On the other hand, even the right is criticized to be very negative and shunned away.

This is a dedication to the generous God who given the blank cheque to be filled up with the greatest values.
